Peregrine falcons (male and female) (2020)

Inge Marleen - peregrine falcon (2020)

Diptych, oil on canvas, 24 x 30 cm and 30 x 40 cm

The female peregrine falcon is significantly larger than the male, which is an anomaly among birds. This falcon has been used for thousands of years as a hunting animal because it is the fastest animal in the world. It can reach diving speeds up to 320 km an hour, whereas the cheetah – that most people believe is the fastest animal – can reach 120 km an hour. Granted, the peregrine falcon does have the aid of gravity in its dives.
